OUR THANKS GO TO THE

QUEENSLAND GOVERNMENT'S GAMBLING COMMUNITY BENEFIT FUND

WHO’S GENEROUS GRANT  IN MAY 2008 ALLOWED US TO:

Figure 1 - Parker Hall Acoustic Ceiling Tiles

·               Install sound proofing tiles to the Parker Centre hall ceiling, reducing the noise and echoing in the hall. This has made various Section meetings much easier to run as leaders can be heard and separate groups can take part in individual activities.  In addition, the sound amelioration has reduced the noise heard at boundaries and therefore being experienced by our adjoining neighbours, which had been an issue since this hall was built.

Figure 3 - Scouts Section meeting - the Sections find meeting time greatly improved now that the acoustic tiles have been installed.  Noise is absorbed and echoing has been reduced significantly.

·               In addition six new 8-man tents were purchased.  These were first used on the Branch Activities camp at BP Park, Samford Valley in August 2008 and were admired by several other groups.  Each tent has a sleeping area to each side plus a central zone, all with separate zip up mosquito net and doors. They also have good venting and are constructed of a quality reflective material to keep the tent cool through the day.  In addition there is a vestibule area at the front of the tent which is very handy for bags and dealing with shoes etc during inclement weather. These tents are ideal for larger camps as they accommodate 8 persons easily and are fairly compact to transport.
